New York–Kennedy – American's secondary transatlantic hub and its primary Latin American hub in the Northeast. Once American started emphasizing the hub again in their first attempt to reestablish their hub here, they added many new domestic routes to the JFK hub. In April 2021, American made a major expansion at the LGA and JFK hubs due to a partnership with JetBlue. The partnership allowed American to add at least a dozen new international routes, thus reestablishing JFK as a major international and domestic hub. The partnership allowed for their hub at JFK to complement its PHL hub, and make the airport a major connecting hub for both American and JetBlue.
This expansion was one of the biggest expansions ever at the hub. Despite this expansion, Delta still remains the biggest carrier at John F. Kennedy International Airport by destinations and number of passengers carried. American has about 12% of the market share at JFK, making it the third largest carrier at the airport behind Delta and JetBlue. JFK also serves as a major connecting point for other Oneworld carriers. The airline's unaccompanied minor service is available for those aged 5 through 14 years old. Children from 5-7 years of age can only travel on nonstop or direct flights.
Parents will need to fill out the unaccompanied minor form and any necessary customs and immigration documents at the airport ticket counter on the day of departure. And since then they have added many seasonal destinations internationally in 2018 and 2019 respectively. After American started its partnership with JetBlue, the JFK hub has complemented the PHL hub. However despite the major expansions at the JFK hub, Philadelphia is still the primary transatlantic hub for American and it remains a major connecting hub. American has about 70% of the market share at PHL, making it the airport's largest airline.
The airport also serves as a base for American Airlines Shuttle. Since April 2021, American has made a major expansion at the LGA and JFK hubs due to a partnership with JetBlue. Because of the partnership, it allowed American to utilize all regional flights with regional jets that included a First Class Cabin, and add new year-round and seasonal service to many new destinations. Because of this expansion, American in terms of destinations is the largest carrier at LaGuardia Airport over Delta, even though Delta is the largest carrier in terms of passengers carried. Despite JFK's hub being deemphasized between August 2017 and April 2019, American's LGA hub has been the focus for connections in New York since LGA is American's primary hub in the New York area. American has about 27% of the market share at LGA, and is the second-largest carrier behind Delta.
The self-check-in process is between 24 hours and 60 minutes before the flight; you may check yourself in online or on American Airlines' app. It's recommended to arrive at the airport as soon as possible, to allow enough time for security check, visa check, and baggage drop, but no later than two hours prior to departure. On domestic flights in the US, you may arrive 90 minutes before your flight. Boarding starts 30 minutes before your scheduled flight time, and doors will be closed 10 minutes prior to departure. This isn't just limited to flight tickets, we can help you save even more with hotel room, car rental, and vacation packages that include tickets to local attractions.

Since 1981, as a means of creating revenue in a period of loss-making, American Airlines had offered a lifetime pass of unlimited travel, for the initial cost of $250,000. However, after some time, the airline realised they were making losses on the tickets, with the ticketholders costing them up to $1 million each. Ticketholders were booking large amounts of flights, and some ticketholders flying interstate for lunch or flying to London multiple times a month. AA raised the cost of the lifetime pass to $3 million, and then finally stopped offering it in 2003. AA then used litigation to cancel two of the lifetime offers, saying the passes "had been terminated due to fraudulent activity". On some routes, American also offers Basic Economy, the airline's lowest main cabin fare.

These restrictions include waiting until check-in for a seat assignment, no upgrades or refunds, and boarding in the last group. Originally Basic Economy passengers could only carry a personal item, but American later revised their Basic Economy policies to allow for a carry-on bag. The flight crew in the cockpit ignored the warning, as on a prior flight, a fume event had occurred due to a problem with the auxiliary power unit. However, the smoke on Flight 132 was caused by improperly packaged hazardous materials. As a result, the aircraft was not evacuated immediately on landing, exposing the crew and passengers to the threat of smoke and fire longer than necessary.
