Many of his students, "Doc's Boys" have gone on to prominence in the natural gas, chemical and petroleum industries. Frank H. Dotterweich was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.
He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1928 and a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering in 1937 from John Hopkins University. Dr. Dotterweich was an outstanding athlete, he played and coached soccer and took his high school team to the Maryland state championship in the 1920's. In 1928 he was named to the All-American Lacrosse Team and later that year represented his country on the U.S.
After graduating Dr. Dotterweich moved to Kingsville and began his career at Texas A&I University. To serve in the Petroleum Administration for War in the Natural Gas and Gasoline Division. Dr. Dotterweich returned to Kingsville and the next year, 1946, married June Smith. The couple was active in many university and community organizations. They formed the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, were members of the Rotary Club of Kingsville and were involved with community development. June had studied nursing, was nationally recognized as a sharpshooter, worked on recreation area planning for Kingsville, and received an award in 1967 for being an Outstanding Civic Leader of America.
In addition to developing the Natural Gas Curriculum, Dr. Dotterweich was Dean of the College of Engineering from 1947 to 1971. During winter commencement in 1989, Dr. Dotterweich was given Texas A&I University's first Presidential Citation. Former students were challenged to match the initial donation which they did in a matter of weeks.
They had set up the Frank and June Smith Dotterweich Memorial Trust with scholarships in engineering and nursing. Dr. Dotterweich was internationally recognized for his expertise as an engineer and an educator. He had dedicated forty-five years to Texas A&I University and earned the university distinction.

The abstracts of 700 publications listed on active engineering education coalition Web sites were analyzed over time by type of intervention, population of focus, and product. A picture consistent with other reports of coalition contributions emerged. Early focus was on freshman courses and integrating across disciplines, with teamwork, design and other active learning activities. Students and course improvement remained the dominant focus, but efforts increased over time in assessment, faculty development, and research.
Interviews with coalition leaders and leading authors supplement the publication analysis and describe how coalition work helped lay the foundation for more rigorous engineering education research. One of the oldest student organizations is the Singing Cadets, founded in 1893. The Singing Cadets are an all-male choral group with about 70 members not affiliated with the Corps of Cadets. This paper discusses the importance of integration, reviews accomplishments to date, draws conclusions by analyzing those accomplishments, and suggests future initiatives.
A vision for chemical engineering curriculum for the future for 2015 and beyond is presented. The curriculum must engage students in the subject matter of chemical engineering and its use, and cultivate along the way that mix of attributes that characterizes the engineer. Many opportunities for repetition of key ideas, concepts, and tools should be provided as the students move through the four years of curriculum. The reinforcement of these key elements should also be accompanied by a systematic movement from simple to complex topics as the curriculum proceeds. Integration could be further enhanced by a small-group seminar series that develops important abilities of social awareness, professional ethics, business development and professional practice.

In the fall of 2021 semester, Texas A&M was the largest public American university with an enrollment of 72,982 students pursuing degrees in 10 academic colleges. Members of ethnic minority groups make up 45.26% of the student population. Many Texas A&M graduates served during World War I and by 1918, 49% of all graduates of the college were in military service, more than any other school. In early September 1918, the entire senior class enlisted, with plans to send the younger students at staggered dates throughout the next year. Many of the seniors were fighting in France when the war ended two months later. After the war, Texas A&M grew rapidly and became nationally recognized for its programs in agriculture, engineering, and military science.
The first graduate school was organized in 1924 and the school awarded its first PhD in 1940. In 1925, Mary Evelyn Crawford Locke became the first female to receive a diploma from Texas A&M, although she was not allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.
